St Mary’s Church off Church Street was seeking a certificate of lawfulness to replace three existing lamp posts and to install a further three lamp posts.

The Grade I listed Anglican place of worship proposed the new lighting to ‘allow for safer disabled access to the church’.

However, a council planning officer confirmed to church warden Malcolm Bonner this week that St Mary’s had shelved its plans, meaning they will not be determined.

They wrote: “I refer to the above application. I confirm that the application has been treated as withdrawn and the file has therefore been closed.”

St Mary’s application said the six new lights would all be black ‘Windsor Urban’ street lamps powered by LED bulbs.

One of the new lights would have been located inside the church gates near Chess Valley Walk, with another opposite the existing bench on the approach to the church and third beside the small car parking area opposite the side entrance.

The two existing lamp posts around side of the church were to be replaced, as was the one to the left of the main path leading up to the church.
