A driver mounted a pavement near a primary school after attempting to flee police officers for the second time in a day.

On Thursday, police were hunting for a vehicle which had allegedly earlier given officers the slip in Watford town centre.

The vehicle was of interest to police because it had been linked to a number of thefts in Watford, Three Rivers, and Dacorum.

The target car was spotted by officers in Watford Road, Croxley Green, on Thursday afternoon but the driver failed to stop.

Police say the driver mounted a pavement and attempted to reverse down a street at speed near a primary school, before the runaway car became wedged between a hedge and a police vehicle.

The driver then fled the scene on foot.

A second vehicle, which had been travelling in convoy with the first, was found nearby and police say a number of suspected stolen items were found inside.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says enquiries are ongoing.

  • A 35-year-old man from Watford was arrested on suspicion of theft, going equipped to steal, failing to stop, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and on domestic related offences.
