HILLINGDON teaching staff were recognised for going the extra mile during the pandemic with an invitation to meet the Prime Minster at 10 Downing Street.

Oak Wood School teachers Elaine Dawkins and Chris Bailey got the chance to see the seat of power as a thank-you for their hard work.

PE teacher Chris helped to train staff to deliver online lessons while Elaine was on the school site to teach vulnerable and key worker children during closures.

Both were selected by head teacher Daniel Cowling who was sent an invitation following a visit to the Sutton Court Road school by Mr Johnson, who is also the Uxbridge and South Ruislip MP.

Chris said: “It was a pretty amazing experience. It says a huge amount about our head teacher that he chose his staff to visit the school rather than himself.

“During the lockdown, the school was amazing because we were able to teach lessons online to timetable. I was able to help those that did not really have experience using online platforms.”
