Hillingdon poll rivals pledge to oppose Heathrow expansion
BOTH the Labour and Conservative groups in Hillingdon will continue to oppose Heathrow expansion if elected on May 5.
It follows a campaign by the No 3rd Runway Coalition.
Plans to expand are, according to Heathrow, on hold while the airport recovers from the pandemic, but it says it will soon be ready to have another push at getting its runway.
Campaigners believe cross-party support in Hillingdon shows opposition remains strong 20 years after the first proposals.
Cllr. Ian Edwards, leader of Hillingdon Conservatives, said:
“We are delighted to reaffirm our ongoing opposition to Heathrow expansion as we continue to protect our environment and communities.”
Cllr. Peter Curling, leader of Hillingdon Labour, said: “Expansion at Heathrow would have unacceptable impacts to the health and wellbeing of residents in the Heathrow villages, who face losing their homes and communities.”
