A 34-year-old man was caught stealing from a Buckinghamshire Greggs outlet right in front of an on-duty police officer.

David Shurrock of Watermead in Aylesbury was spotted on CCTV walking through the town’s High Street before entering the branch on Wednesday, October 8.

As he walked into the bakery, he immediately left the store with items he grabbed and didn’t pay for.

This all took place in front of a Thames Valley Police officer who quickly apprehended Shurrock, with the force describing the incident as something from a ‘comedy sketch’.

They said: “Meet David Shurrock, who was caught on camera strolling through Aylesbury town centre, past a police officer, straight into Greggs… and helping himself to items without paying.

“Yes, you read that right - In front of a police officer.

“While it might sound like the start of a comedy sketch, this is real life, and shoplifting is no joke.

“Retail theft affects local businesses, staff, and the community.

“It’s not clever, it’s not funny, and it’s definitely not worth the sausage roll.

“Let’s be clear: stealing is a crime, whether it’s in broad daylight or behind closed doors. And doing it in front of us? That’s just asking for trouble.”

The video of the incident was shared on Facebook and has been viewed thousands of times, with nearly 4,000 people reacting to the clip.
