A High Wycombe cleaning company has gone viral after sharing a video of a painstaking restoration of a 180-year-old grave in a nearby village.

The Bin Kings, a business launched in November 2025, usually travels across South Buckinghamshire cleaning outdoor bins for homeowners and tenants.

However, their work has recently taken an unexpected turn, and captured the attention of thousands online.

A video posted in early May shows team member Jake restoring a historic grave in Wooburn Green, and has since been widely shared across TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. The company has already amassed more than one million likes on TikTok alone.

In the clip, Jake visits the overgrown resting place of John Hobbs, who was born in September 1771 and died aged 74 in 1846.

The grave was largely hidden beneath thick shrubbery, with details of the inscription barely visible.

Describing the scene, Jake said it was a “shame” that the grave’s details could not be seen before he began clearing leaves and vegetation.

Despite being forced to stop short of a full clean due to a nearby swarm of bees, he managed to remove enough debris to reveal the inscription, bringing the history of the site back into view for the first time in years.

Further interest in the video led to one follower researching the Hobbs family, uncovering new details about the man and his life.

Mr Hobbs was born in Buckinghamshire to parents John and Rebecca, later marrying Martha Miles in Aylesbury in 1802.

The couple had seven children, and he spent his working life as a farmer, a role described as essential and physically demanding in the early 19th century.

Records suggest some uncertainty around the exact date of his death, with his gravestone stating August 30, 1846, while official records suggest August 31.

It also emerged that the grave is shared with his wife Martha, who died in January 1852.

Census records indicate she later became a publican in Holtspur near Beaconsfield, a relatively unusual occupation for a woman at that time.

The family’s story stretches beyond Buckinghamshire, with a descendant, Joseph William Hobbs, reportedly going on to build a successful career in shipping, property and whisky, eventually owning multiple distilleries.

The Bin Kings’ video has struck a chord with viewers, combining local history with a simple act of care and restoration.

While the group continues its day-to-day work across High Wycombe and the surrounding villages, it is this glimpse into the past, uncovered in Wooburn Green, that has helped turn a routine clean into a viral moment.
