A popular community event in Wooburn and Bourne End has been cancelled this year due to staffing and volunteer 'issues', the parish council has confirmed.

Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council announced it had taken the “difficult decision” to cancel Parkfest, citing ongoing issues with resources and an inability to organise the event to the high standard expected.

In a post on Facebook, the council said it was “disappointed” but felt it was important to make the call well in advance, rather than risk cancelling closer to the event date.

It added that issues with staff and volunteers meant it could not deliver Parkfest to the “high standard we strive for”.

The council said it hoped residents and participants would understand the situation, and confirmed that full refunds would be issued to traders who had already paid for a stall.

Parkfest was supposed to take place at Wooburn Park, from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday, August 29.

Despite the cancellation, the parish council thanked the community for its continued support and expressed hope that Parkfest could return in future.

A spokesperson for Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council said: "We are disappointed but we must accept that the decision is best made now, rather than closer to event day.

"We hope you understand our position and we will of course be issuing full refunds to those who have paid a stall fee.

"Thank you for your support."
