Two telephones are due to be installed in Marlow later on this year.

A planning notification submitted to Buckinghamshire Council on February 26 revealed plans to erect two 10-metre wooden poles along Queens Road in the town.

A decision notice was made on March 2 suggesting that the works will go ahead, but no date has officially been set.

Planning rules mean the project cannot go ahead if it blocks drivers’ views of the road.

Under national development regulations, certain small building works are normally allowed without needing full planning permission.

However, these rules do not apply if the work would create or widen an access onto a main or classified road, or if it would make it harder for motorists to see clearly when using the highway.

In this case, the council says the proposal would only count as permitted development if it does not obstruct visibility for people driving along the road.

If the structure affects sightlines or makes it more difficult for road users to see approaching traffic, it would fall outside the permitted rules and would require a full planning application.

Officials have therefore advised that the developer must ensure the position of the building does not interfere with the views of the highway.

If it does, the project cannot be treated as permitted development and would need formal planning permission before any work can begin.
