With its rolling Chiltern hills and quaint villages, it's not surprising that Buckinghamshire is becoming an increasingly popular area to move to. 

For many Londoners, it was a global pandemic that prompted them to look at moving out into the countryside for fresh air and exercise - with Buckinghamshire high on the list of desired locations. 

Zoopla has compiled a list of the most expensive places to live in the county, based on the average price paid for properties.

This list was calculated by looking at the average property values in a given area based on Zoopla estimates. 

Here are the 10 places across Bucks where the highest average house price was paid over the last 12 months.

1. Beaconsfield - Average house price: £1,095,802

Bucks Free Press:

Beaconsfield was one of the first 'million pound towns' according to research in 2015 - meaning it is one of the first towns outside of London where house prices have hit seven figures. 

And it was revealed by an estate agent last year that Beaconsfield is one of the towns in the Home Counties that has shot up the list of property hotspots for Premier League footballers. 

But it has also had a lot of famous residents from the literary world in years gone by - G.K Chesterton, Enid Blyton and Terry Pratchett all lived in Beaconsfield. 

In the last 12 months, 83 homes were sold according to Zoopla data. 

2. Chalfont St Giles - Average house price: £1,044,885

Chalfont St Giles is nestled in the AONB on the edge of the Chilterns, so it's hardly surprising plenty of people want to live here. 

The village is a popular filming location, with the likes of Midsomer Murders and Dad's Army filmed there over the years. 

Poet and intellectual John Milton also lived in Chalfont St Giles after reportedly leaving London to escape the plague. 

In the last 12 months, there were 44 homes sold in Chalfont St Giles. 

3. Gerrards Cross - Average house price: £979,430

Many residents living in Gerrards Cross are, in regular times, commuters into London but it's still a vibrant town with plenty of independent traders and restaurants to enjoy. 

It also boasts a common which is much-loved by many residents.  

There were 99 home sales in the last 12 months in Gerrards Cross according to the latest data by Zoopla. 

4. Great Missenden - Average house price: £759,915

Even if you've never visited Great Missenden, chances are you'd recognise some of its features - as famous author Roald Dahl, who lived in the village, highlighted many aspects of it in his stories. 

The pretty village boasts great cycling and country walks - perfect for those aiming to get away from the hustle and bustle of big cities and towns. 

Fifty-six properties were sold in the past 12 months in Great Missenden. 

5. Amersham - Average house price: £739,232

Bucks Free Press:

Much like Beaconsfield, Amersham is split into an old and a new town but both are inviting to househunters. 

It has good links into London, with services by Chiltern Railways and the London Underground. 

When we're able to enjoy them again, the town also boasts picturesque pubs and plenty of independent shops as well as the popilar Amersham Museum. 

There were 129 house sales in Amersham in the last 12 months. 

6. Marlow - Average house price: £725,915

Bucks Free Press:

The picturesque riverside town is a celebrity hotspot, with the likes of Ricky Gervais, Chris Evans, Sir Steve Redgrave and top chef Tom Kerridge owning property here.

Mary Shelley also completed Frankenstein when she lived in West Street - she moved there in 1817. 

Ninety homes were sold in Marlow in the past year, Zoopla says. 

7. Bourne End - Average house price: £695,756

Bourne End is another stunning riverside destination, but is smaller and quieter than Marlow. 

It still has a good selection of cafes, restaurants, jewellers - and even a Wimpy is due to open up soon. 

It also boasts the beautiful marina and plenty of jaw-dropping river's edge mansions. 

There were 45 home sales in the past 12 months according to Zoopla. 

8. Iver - Average house price: £665,829

Bucks Free Press:

It's not hard to see why Iver is an attractive place in Bucks to live. Right in the south of the county, it borders Uxbridge, which is in the London borough of Hillingdon, so good links into the city. 

It is also close to Heathrow and Pinewood Studios - while maintaing a village feel with gorgeous green spaces like Black Park (pictured above). 

There were 44 house sales in Iver last year. 

9. Princes Risborough - Average house price: £586,687

Bucks Free Press:

Risborough is another Bucks town that's perfectly located for getting out and about in the countryside. 

It is regarded by many as the gateway to the Chilterns, laying between the Vale of Aylesbury and the western escarpment of the Chiltern Hills. 

It's dominated by the chalk hill carving, the Whiteleaf Cross, which can be seen for miles around.

It also has a number of cafes, pubs and independent stores - and boasts some amazing street and farmers markets.

There were 81 house sales in Risborough last year. 

10. Chesham - Average house price: £485,785

Chesham is the largest town in the old Chiltern district area and is at the very end of the Metropolitan line, so is a popular choice with commuters. 

It is also well placed for some countryside exploring and the beautiful River Chess provides a haven for wildlife. 

It also has its own theatre, the picturesque Lowndes Park, an open-air swimming pool and independent and national retailers. 

There were 129 house sales in Chesham in the last 12 months.
