The owners of a pub that was seriously damaged when a driver crashed an Audi into it have sent plans to repair the damage to Buckinghamshire Council.

The Old Bell in Wooburn was left with a huge hole in the wall when a silver Audi became embedded in the side following a late-night crash on August 12.

Since then, the 16th century building has been propped up with scaffolding and temporary traffic lights have had to be set up to direct traffic around the damaged pub.

Now, EI Group, the company that owns the pub, has put forward plans to repair the building.

Planning documents suggest the works will be carried out "as soon as possible to re-instate normal access outside the building".

The company cannot just go ahead and repair the damage because the pub is a Grade II listed building and is in a conservation area - so they have to ask Buckinghamshire Council for permission.

The plans will see the building reinstated with materials matching those already used.

The window that was destroyed in the crash will be reproduced in timber and painted to look like the rest.

A report by a chartered surveyor has revealed the extent of the damage caused by the impact.

The wall has been demolished to around first floor level, the chimney stack has been partially lost, the fireplace has been completely destroyed and part of the damaged wall has "rotated", causing the brickwork to fracture.

The first floor has largely remained undamaged.

There have still been no arrests following the smash, which came just weeks after new managers took over the running of the pub.

A man was left seriously injured in the passenger seat while the driver fled from the wreckage.
