New research from Citizens Advice has revealed a significant gap in consumer understanding about how people can save money on energy bills, whilst also reducing their impact on the environment.

A lack of awareness, nervousness and general ambivalence means 9.7 million households, over a third, have not made changes to their energy usage at home in recent years.

Hundreds of pounds can be saved by switching energy supplier or changing tariff.

Around 20% of Chiltern residents switched supplier last year - switching now could save the average UK household over £300 a year.

Vulnerable households are particularly at risk of paying too much for their gas and electricity as they may have higher energy requirements than the average household.

You could be entitled to benefits, grants or discounts to boost your income and lower costs.

There may be local schemes available to help make your home more energy efficient through boiler servicing, replacement or insulation.

Small changes can also make a difference such as using low energy light bulbs or turning the thermostat down by one degree can save you money.
