After much speculation and anticipation, Aylesbury’s newest Sainsbury’s branch was finally opened.

Hundreds of customers queued outside the Gatehouse Way outlet on Wednesday, November 24 with the town’s mayor, Andres Christensen, presenting the official ribbon-cutting.

Mr Christensen was joined by Haydon Abbey School pupil, Sabah, who won a competition to design a limited-edition Sainsbury’s bag for life to mark the launch of the new store, with the first 500 customers being lucky enough to take home a copy of her winning artwork.

Features at the 50,000 square foot supermarket include a spacious car park that will include a Sainsbury’s bee hotel, vehicle charging points, along with many disabled spaces.

Additionally, the new store will provide a ‘substantial investment’ into the Aylesbury area, by delivering around 150 jobs.

The store will also have an Argos and Starbucks inside the outlet.

Anders Christensen, Mayor of Aylesbury said: “In my capacity as Mayor of Aylesbury, I was honoured to have the opportunity to officially open the new Aylesbury Gatehouse supermarket on behalf of the local community.

Rob Butler, Member of Parliament for Aylesbury commented: “I'm delighted that Sainsbury is making such a substantial investment in Aylesbury, bringing new jobs at an important time for our local economy.
