Bin thefts are on the rise in a Bucks community, say police, as officers warn residents and share security advice.

Waddesdon has received a Thames Valley Police community alert on the phenomenon.

It states: "We’ve seen an increase in bin thefts in the area."

The force gave the following advice to residents:

  • After bin collection day, you store your bins in a safe location, ideally out of sight.
  • If your bin is stolen, report it to Buckinghamshire Council, who will advise you on what to do next.

It added: "Let’s work together to keep our community secure."

Bucks Council has an online service to order replacement bins or boxes if residents were lost, stolen or damaged through day to day use.

For stolen bins, it requires a crime reference number from a police report.

The council states that residents can order replacement bins for:

  • general waste
  • mixed recycling
  • food waste (23 litre)
  • paper and card
  • garden waste
