There are plans to revamp 190 military homes in Wycombe under a new Government strategy.

Over 40,000 forces family homes are set to be 'upgraded' and 'modernised' across the UK with new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems.

Around 14,000 will be 'substantially renovated' or replaced.

Emma Reynolds MP has expressed her support for the scheme as a 'major boost' to military families across Wycombe, who she says are set to benefit from the planned revamps and through the creation of a new Defence Housing Service.

She stated that the new strategy will 'end the scandal of poor-quality military housing' and that '190 forces family homes in Wycombe are set for a boost in landmark new plan'.

The new Defence Housing Service will be managing military homes while 'keeping them in public hands' following a buy-back deal for 36,000 homes which had been put into private ownership by the Conservative government in 1996.

Labour claims this purchase has saved over £200 million per year in rent payments, which it says is now being reinvested in fixing forces homes.

The new scheme was unveiled in the Government's new Defence Housing Strategy, published on November 3, which it says will deliver 'homes fit for our heroes'.

A spokesperson for the MP also stated that Labour’s plan will also 'supercharge housebuilding on surplus Defence land – delivering new homes for veterans, military and civilian families'.

This follows reports of potential delays to plans to build over 1,000 homes at RAF Halton as the training base is set to continue to be in use until at least 2030, rather than closing by 2027 as had previously been suggested.
