Seventy residents gathered in Downley to discuss local action on climate change.

On September 2, a meeting at Downley Memorial Hall brought residents together to watch the People’s Emergency Briefing.

The short film presents evidence about the climate and nature crisis and its effects on the UK.

After the screening, attendees shared reflections and ideas for action.

Rebecca Hickman, an organiser, said: “We were delighted to have a full house for such an important meeting.

"The discussion was lively and lots of great ideas were tabled – including introducing a 20mph speed limit throughout Downley, lobbying the Council to change policy on solar panels in conservation zones, and planting wild flowers across our green spaces."

She added: “Given the strong interest and engagement, we now hope to have a follow-up meeting to agree a local plan of action.

"While the onus of responsibility is on the government, there is also much we can do individually and collectively to make Downley a more resilient community.”
