Red Kite Community Housing has delivered its 500th food parcel to vulnerable residents.

The food parcel scheme was set up at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic to help vulnerable residents affected by the crisis.

Food was donated by FareShare, a charitable food redistributor that takes good quality surplus food from across the food industry and shares it with almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups.

Red Kite’s staff volunteers packaged the food into parcels and then delivered them to residents, many of whom were shielding and couldn’t get to the shops.

The scheme, which came to an end on Thursday (June 25), has helped feed hundreds of residents in the High Wycombe area.

Enough food was donated for more than 3,600 meals.

Bazgha Sultana, engagement and events manager at Red Kite, who managed the project, said: “It has been an amazing three months where everyone has pulled together to help. I feel so proud to be part of this community.”

Residents who need help are urged to contact Red Kite’s Financial Wellbeing team.
