A local woman has won a championship at one of the UK’s most prestigious equestrian events.

Rebecca Stevens, 28, from Caversham, Reading, took first place in the Driving for the Disabled Championship at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Ms Stevens lives with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition that forced her to step back from riding and explore carriage driving instead.

Ms Stevens said: "Carriage driving has given me a new sense of freedom and independence.

"To compete at Royal Windsor Horse Show in itself was a huge moment and to come away as champion is something I am incredibly proud of.

"I hope sharing my story encourages others living with disabilities to keep pursuing the things they love."

She drove Oakhaze McClintok, known as Squeak, to victory in the competition.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, presented her with the title.

The event celebrates the skill and determination of disabled drivers in equestrian sport.
