A popular community festival will return to Chesham town centre this weekend as organisers prepare for the sixth annual Hats Off Chesham! celebration.

Chesham Town Council is partnering with community group Chesham Connect to deliver this year’s event, which will take place on Saturday, July 11, from midday until 10pm.

The family-friendly festival will once again transform Chesham High Street with live entertainment, street performers, craft stalls, food vendors and activities for all ages.

A packed programme throughout the day will include roving magicians, artisan traders and performances from local dance groups on the BURPS Community Stage. BURPS is a charity that supports families with babies receiving care at the Stoke Mandeville Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Visitors can also enjoy live music from local bands in Market Square before festivities continue into the evening with a party atmosphere and music from resident favourite DJ Phil.

There will be a wide range of free activities for children, including creative crafts and hat-making workshops, a bouncy castle and the popular Spider Mountain attraction.

New additions for this year include tea-cup rides and a trampoline fun-house. Face painting and henna art will also be available throughout the day.

Organisers said all children's activities will remain free thanks to support from headline sponsors Silverson, BWK Solicitors and Dickinsons. A number of other local businesses are also backing the event.

This year, Chiltern Brewery has been named the festival’s official sustainability partner and is sponsoring reusable cups as part of efforts to reduce single-use plastics and encourage greener community events.

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care has been chosen as the event’s charity partner.

Hats Off Chesham! has become known for its creative headwear, with previous years featuring everything from elegant designs to quirky novelty hats.

Memorable entries have included a birthday cake-themed creation and a model of the Earth, which proved a crowd favourite last year.

Organisers are encouraging visitors to embrace the festival spirit by wearing a hat, particularly unusual or humorous creations.

The event originated from Chesham Connect’s High Street Strategy and aims to showcase the town centre while encouraging residents and visitors to support local businesses.

A spokesperson for Chesham Connect said: “Hats Off Chesham! has become one of the highlights of the town’s calendar.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our vibrant High Street, support local businesses and bring the community together for a day full of fun, creativity and entertainment.”

The festival is expected to attract residents from Chesham, neighbouring villages and further afield for a day of community celebrations in the town centre.
