Plans for a Marlow homeowner to extend their property and raise its roof height have been approved, despite objections from the town council.

The proposal for the house on Barnhill Road includes a single-storey flat-roof rear extension, a slightly raised roof over the side garage, and a rebuilt main roof with eaves 50cm higher than the existing ones.

The design also features new side gables, hipped dormer windows to the front and rear, and a small obscured-glazed dormer on the south side.

Timber and metal-framed double-glazed windows and doors, along with new insulated render, will also be added.

Marlow Town Council objected, saying the increased size of the property was not supported by adequate parking provision.

However, Buckinghamshire Council’s planning authority approved the application. A planning officer said any potential harm to neighbours had been addressed, and the revised design would not result in overlooking or visual harm.

They said: “Mindful of the presence of gable end dwellings and pitched roof dormer development within the local neighbourhood, the formation of the common design features and white rendered exterior are considered appropriate and are able to be accommodated within the local context within the mixed character of dwelling designs.

“As there are a limited numbers of eyebrow dormer bungalows sited along Barnhill Road, which is not an architectural style of particular value to the local settings for retention, as such, there are no objections to the proposed changes of the principal elevation of the application dwelling.”
