CALLS for weight restrictions to be introduced to stop large vehicles using a series of village roads as a “cut-through” when main highways are too busy have sounded.

Campaigners, fighting to protect the people of Coleshill and its roads, have demanded Buckinghamshire Council consider introducing a weight limit at four main routes into the village.

More than 240 people have signed an online petition hoping to see a 7.5-tonne weight restriction (except for access) brought in at New Road, Tower Road, Magpie Lane and Sampsons Hill.

The new measures are intended to stop heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) using Coleshill as a rat run when the A355 or A404 are “congested”.

The petitioners are keen to make the area “safer for residents, walkers and cyclists, and minimise damage to roads, verges, trees and property throughout the village”.

Large vehicles will still be able to make deliveries to houses in the village, they say.

The e-petition will close on February 2.

“We the undersigned, petition the council to introduce a 7.5-tonne weight restriction on heavy goods vehicles entering Coleshill to stop drivers using the village as a cut-through when the A355 or A404 roads are congested,” the petition states.
