Nitrous Oxide canister bins have been installed in High Wycombe.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that the amnesty bin has been erected outside Totteridge Community Centre in the town, following a rise in usage in the area.

The drug, which is also known as laughing gas, is a Class C drug under British law, but numerous dispensers and bottles containing the gas are being left on pavements and roads in South Buckinghamshire.

The aim of the bin being installed is so that canisters can be removed from the streets.

The force said: “This new bin gives members of the public a safe place to dispose of unwanted nitrous oxide canisters, helping to keep our parks, streets, and green spaces cleaner and safer for everyone.

“Thank you to the community centre for working with us to make this happen.

"If you have any NOS canisters you wish to get rid of, please use the bin responsibly.

“We’ll continue to monitor and support the area as part of our ongoing work to tackle NOS misuse and associated littering.”
