The Napoleonic era will come alive at a special event in Chalfont St Giles later this month.

Over the May bank holiday weekend, more than 150 re-enactors will take over the Chiltern Open Air Museum.

The event, called Cavalry and Cannons: The Napoleonic Experience, will see riflemen, cavalry, and other enthusiasts recreate the early 19th century.

Visitors will be treated to displays of skirmishes, horsepower, cannons, and weaponry from the Napoleonic era.

The event aims to bring the sights and sounds of the early 19th century to life, offering a glimpse into the uniforms and drills of the common soldier, as well as the daily life of civilians during this time.

Throughout the day, there will be various displays, including rifle drills, cavalry skill demonstrations, cannon-firing, weapons competitions, and a skirmish that recreates a Napoleonic battlefield.

Visitors will also have the chance to meet actor Jason Salkey, who played Rifleman Harris in the TV show Sharpe.

The museum is an outdoor venue with more than 30 historic buildings that have been rescued and reconstructed.

These buildings were once the homes or workplaces of ordinary people from history.

The museum runs with the help of hundreds of local volunteers and hosts a number of community and special events throughout the year.

Tickets for the event can be purchased from the museum's website.
