Wycombe Museum is opening its Chair Discovery Centre to the public for the first time.

Situated above the High Wycombe Social Club, the centre will be open on Friday, July 17, and Sunday, July 19.

To celebrate the launch, the museum is running the 2026 Chair Festival, a series of more than 20 events and exhibitions across the town.

The centre is a storage facility for the museum's collection, which includes nearly 250 chairs and unique furniture archives, none of which had been fully accessible to the public before.

On regular open days throughout the year, the centre will welcome visitors to explore the local chair-making history further.

The Chair Discovery Centre will be open to all, including chair experts, school groups, local history enthusiasts, and the general public.

Entry to the Chair Discovery Centre is free on regular open days throughout the year, with the first two open days during the Chair Festival on July 17 and July 19.

Visitors can view the full list of upcoming open days, book tickets, and find all other visitor information on the museum's website.

The museum expressed gratitude to the Association of Independent Museums, Aurelius Charitable Trust, Buckinghamshire Council, Heart of Bucks, The Julia Rausing Trust, Museum Development South East, Opportunity Bucks, the Pilgrim Trust, Red Kite Community Housing, Regional Furniture Society, and Rothschild Foundation for their funding support.

The museum, located in Priory Avenue, will continue to be open, free of charge, with the centre acting primarily as a store for its nationally significant collection.

More details about the Chair Festival programme, which runs throughout July, can be found on the Wycombe Museum website.
