A motorist has been issued with a ticket after they were caught travelling in the outside lane of a motorway for five miles.

An unmarked police bike pulled over the driver of the black Mercedes after the vehicle was spotted on the M4.

The force said the driver travelled in the outside lane without moving back to the correct lane for over five miles.

A ticket was issued to the motorist and now TVP Roads Policing has issued a warning to others on its social media page.

A spokesperson said: "The outside lane is to be used for overtaking slower vehicles in the nearside and middle lanes. Likewise, the middle lane is for overtaking slower vehicles in the nearside lane.

"You should be driving in the leftmost available lane when not overtaking.

"Unnecessarily remaining in an overtaking lane causes congestion, frustrates other drivers and demonstrates a lack of paying attention to your surroundings."
