A 43-year-old man who has been arrested on suspicion of arson and intent to harm following a huge High Wycombe fire has been released on conditional bail.

Just before 6 am on Sunday, May 3, fire engines from all over the county as well as Berkshire attended the scene along Desborough Road and Lansdales Road in the town.

It came after a garage was seen a light, with the blaze spreading to two other garages, a barbershop, a betting shop, a hair salon and a bakery.

The latter, which is called Naples, was due to open later on this month.

It is not known when the buildings in question will be repaired.

Following the incident, a man from Buckinghamshire was apprehended by Thames Valley Police, but the force has since confirmed he has been released.

His bail date is July 27 this year.

The cordon was put in place not long after the emergency services arrived at the scene, with the roads being reopened roughly 12 hours later.

In total, seven crews were in attendance: two from High Wycombe, and one each from Beaconsfield, Aylesbury, Amersham and Gerrard’s Cross.

Crews were also being supported by two crews from Royal Berkshire.
