A man has been jailed after a pedestrian suffered serious injuries in a crash at an unauthorised car meet in Milton Keynes.

Issac Osbourne-Walker, 28, of Goldington Road, Bedford, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Aylesbury Crown Court on June 26 after being convicted of causing injury by careless driving.

The court heard that Osbourne-Walker was driving a BMW M3 at an unauthorised car meet on the A421 Standing Way in Milton Keynes on January 21 this year.

His vehicle was involved in a three-vehicle collision near the Bottledump roundabout, during which a man in his twenties, who was on foot, suffered serious injuries.

Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, Osbourne-Walker was found guilty by a jury after a four-day trial which concluded on May 1.

He was acquitted of a separate charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Roads Policing Chief Inspector Jade Hewitt said the case highlighted the potentially devastating consequences of careless driving.

She said: “This case demonstrates how quickly lives can be changed as a result of careless driving.

“The victim suffered serious injuries and the impact of what happened will be felt long after the collision itself.

“Unauthorised car meets and cruises can create significant risks, particularly when large numbers of people gather close to moving vehicles.

“Drivers have a responsibility to ensure their actions do not put others in danger, and spectators should be aware that situations can escalate in a split second.

“We will continue to work with our partners to tackle illegal and anti-social driving, and I hope this sentence serves as a reminder of the potentially devastating consequences when standards of driving fall below what is expected on our roads.”

Thames Valley Police said the victim's injuries were serious and that Osbourne-Walker's careless driving led to the collision.
