KP Snacks has announced plans to close a Tyrrells factory in the UK after discontinuing its vegetable crisps range.

Tyrrells vegetable crisps first launched in the UK back in 2003.

But KP Snacks has now revealed it will be discontinuing the crisp range due to a "sustained decline in demand and the loss of key export volumes".

KP Snacks said there were no planned changes to its other Tyrrells potato crisp ranges, which it said “are not affected and continue to perform strongly”.

'Don't do this, please' - fans upset by decision to axe Tyrrells vegetable crisps

KP Snacks' decision to discontinue Tyrrells vegetable crisps has not gone down well with shoppers.

One person, posting on Reddit group r/unitedkingdom, said: "Noooo, I can’t eat nightshades and these were my go to when I wanted a crisp!"

Another added: "Don't do this, please, f**k sake, why can't we have nice things."

Others agreed the crisps were "the best", but weren't surprised by the decision to scrap them due to the price.

One Reddit user posted: "Absolutely love these crisps but they are way too expensive compared to the other ones and in a smaller packet so I never get them.

"Not surprised by this plan but it is a shame."

This shopper commented: "The best crisps, but I cannot justify £3 for ducking crisps in this economy."

A third shopper wrote: "I absolutely love the veg crisps but they keep getting more expensive and seem to be increasingly full of beetroot and grease instead of the parsnip crisps that I actually want.

"The supermarket ones are cheaper and the same quality so I don't feel like it's a huge loss really. It feels planned if anything."

KP Snacks to close Tyrrells factory

KP Snacks is now looking to close the Tyrrells factory in Uttoxeter, where the vegetable crisps are made.

It said: “As a result, we are proposing to close the Uttoxeter site where these products are manufactured.

“While no final decisions have been made, we appreciate this is an uncertain time for our colleagues at Uttoxeter and we are supporting them throughout the consultation process.

“Should the proposal progress, we will explore any ways to reduce or avoid redundancies where possible.”
