A car giant is moving its headquarters out of High Wycombe after 26 years.

Hyundai UK has had its head office in London Road since 1994 but is making the move to Leatherhead in Surrey from September.

In 2018, the car company said it had "no plans" to move outside the area and was rumoured to have been looking to relocate to the £150 million Handy X Hub on Marlow Hill.

However, there was confusion over that move in February that year - with the then-Wycombe District Council saying the company had considered it but decided against building a new office there, and a Hyundai spokesman said the possibility was still being investigated by its Korean parent company.

Seemingly those discussions hit a dead end, and now Hyundai UK is rumoured to be moving into 17,000 sq ft of office space at the Birchwood Building in Leatherhead, admitting it needs more space than it currently has in High Wycombe.

A spokesman for the company told the Bucks Free Press: "After a recent review of our UK Business Operations, Hyundai Motor UK Ltd will be moving its UK head office to Leatherhead from High Wycombe from September 2020.

"As the brand enters its next phase of development within the UK market, larger and more modern premises were required and the new location has been decided upon based on the facilities provided and the proximity to the sister company Head Offices of Kia UK and Hyundai Capital.

"Our business has been based in High Wycombe since 1994 and the area has provided us and a number of our employees with a good home in that time.

"Now, it is time to move the business towards a new chapter."
