Hundreds of local residents gathered this weekend for Princes Risborough’s annual Christmas Lights Switch On event.

The festive event took place last weekend on Saturday the 29th of November between 3 - 6pm on the High Street.

The Switch On featured a range of attractions such as an ice rink, Santa’s Grotto and live entertainment complimented by stands from local businesses, charities and food vendors.

The lights were switched on during the final hour of the event by pantomime actor Joe Sleight who is starring as Jack in the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk this December.

The afternoon was punctuated by live performances by students from local schools and performing arts groups,  funk band ‘Huggy Flares’ and by Ellesborough Silver Band who were accompanied by local church choirs.

Families were invited to visit Santa and receive a special gift, and were able to bring letters to post to the North Pole with Christmas wishes.

The event was put on by Princes Risborough Town council and was sponsored by a number of local businesses. The main sponsor of the event was Princes Risborough based Lightfoots Solicitors.

Town Mayor Matthew Walsh called the event “one of the most magical moments of the year”, and celebrated how it brings the community together to “share the joy and warmth of the season.”
