The contributions of older people are being celebrated through new efforts to support healthy ageing.

Buckinghamshire Council marked the United Nations International Day of Older People (IDOP) earlier this month by hosting an event focused on the Age Friendly Bucks Programme, held in partnership with Age UK Buckinghamshire.

The event highlighted ongoing work to create more inclusive, supportive environments for older residents.

Isobel Darby, cabinet member for adults and health at Buckinghamshire Council, said: "As a council we are doing all we can to make Buckinghamshire a great place to age, so everyone has the chance to thrive, stay involved, feel valued and enjoy good lives in our community – now and in the future.

"Through joint working, we can build even stronger age friendly communities and create inclusive and supportive environments, and this is demonstrated by the Healthy Ageing Strategy."

Sixty-five partners attended the event, including representatives from voluntary, community, and faith organisations, as well as the NHS and council teams.

The council also highlighted resources such as the Healthy Ageing Fund, which supports projects to increase social connectedness, and the Challenging Ageism toolkit, which promotes a more inclusive society.

This year’s IDOP theme is 'Building Belonging: Celebrating the Power of our Social Connections.'
