A hospice has launched a fundraising appeal.

Thames Hospice is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge for the first time, aiming to raise £40,000 in just seven days.

The money will fund its Hospice at Home service, which relies on vehicles to reach patients across the community.

Sara Reid, clinical team leader at Thames Hospice, said: "For our Hospice at Home team, the car isn't just a vehicle – it's the only way we can deliver comfort and medical support directly to a family's doorstep.

"We do absolutely everything we can to keep someone at home for Christmas, knowing these moments are vulnerable and precious.

"Our cars are always on the go, and we rely on the community's support to ensure the tank is never empty."

The campaign began on Thursday, December 4.

During the campaign, every pound donated will be doubled through match funding.

A £20 donation will become £40 – enough to fuel eight urgent home visits.

Reaching the £40,000 target will keep the hospice’s vehicles running this winter.

This will allow nurses to reach patients 24-hours a day, regardless of weather conditions, to manage pain and provide emotional support to patients and their families.

Thames Hospice delivers more than 26,500 visits and calls each year.
