A finance team swapped spreadsheets for spades during a day of volunteering at a specialist service.

Staff from Salutem Care and Education spent the day gardening at Birchwood specialist service in Chesham, helping to refresh the grounds for spring.

The team spent the day weeding, planting, and trimming in the home’s gardens, enjoying teamwork and laughter throughout.

They were welcomed by service manager Katarzyna Stopa-Kucab and volunteers Anita and Barbara. Katarzyna also prepared a homemade lunch for the visitors.

In the afternoon, the finance team joined an art session with some of the residents, describing it as a highlight of the day.

Salutem Care and Education said volunteering days help staff connect with supported individuals, understand the work happening in services, and contribute in a practical way.

Carolyn Symcox, finance director at Salutem Care and Education, said: "It was a fantastic experience to spend time at Birchwood and get involved in something so different from our usual day jobs.

"The team was amazing, and it was inspiring to meet the individuals we support and see the wonderful work being done by the staff.

"We can’t wait to go back and see the gardens in full bloom next spring."

Birchwood provides 24-hour residential care and support for adults with complex health needs, including PEG and JEJ feeding, medication via PEGs, stoma and catheter care.

Salutem said these volunteering days also strengthen relationships, boost morale, and reinforce a shared sense of purpose across the organisation.
