A High Wycombe community hub has temporarily reduced its menu as soaring temperatures have made working conditions increasingly difficult for staff and volunteers.

The Wrights Meadow Centre announced on social media on the morning of July 7 that it would continue operating with a reduced menu while the current spell of hot weather shows no signs of stopping.

The centre said temperatures in its kitchen had become "incredibly challenging" despite the efforts of its volunteers and staff to keep services running.

The announcement comes as the South East experiences another heatwave, with temperatures forecast to reach the low-to-mid 30s this week and some areas potentially seeing highs of around 34C.

An amber heat-health alert has also been issued for the region.

In a statement, the Wrights Meadow Centre said: "As many of you will know, we're currently experiencing an unprecedented period of extreme heat.

"Unfortunately, the temperatures in our kitchen are becoming incredibly challenging for both our amazing volunteers and dedicated staff, despite everyone working incredibly hard to keep things running.

"To help protect the wellbeing of our team while continuing to provide a service, our menu will remain reduced for the time being.

"We're doing everything we can to keep the kitchen open, but this means simplifying what we can safely prepare in the current conditions."

The centre thanked customers for their patience and understanding while the hot weather continues.

It added: "We really appreciate your patience, understanding and continued support while this spell of hot weather continues.

"Your kindness towards our volunteers and staff means a great deal, and we're looking forward to returning to our full menu as soon as it's safe and practical to do so.

"Thank you for bearing with us."

According to the Met Office, temperatures across the South East are expected to remain hot and largely dry throughout the week, with values reaching around 34C in some locations.

The Wrights Meadow Centre said it hopes to return to its full menu as soon as conditions are safe and practical for its team.

On Google, the venue has an average score of 4.6/5 from 134 reviews, many of which are positive.
