Drivers caught parking in a way that caused "unnecessary obstructions" in Marlow have been let off with warnings, but police have warned tougher action could follow.

Officers from Thames Valley Police's Marlow Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out patrols in Marlow Bottom on September 8, focusing on the junction of New Road.

The force found a number of vehicles parked on the pavement, creating what they described as an "unnecessary obstruction".

They said the parking forced pedestrians into the road and restricted drivers' views of oncoming traffic at the busy junction.

Rather than issuing penalties, officers spoke to the motorists involved and issued words of advice.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "Marlow NHPT spoke to drivers of vehicles parked on the pavement at the junction of Marlow Bottom and New Road.

"The vehicles were parked causing an 'Unnecessary Obstruction', resulting in pedestrians being forced into the road and drivers obscured from seeing oncoming vehicles at the busy junction.

"All owners were compliant and accepted words of advice on this occasion.

"Repeat offenders will receive Fixed Penalty Notices and risk having their vehicle towed away if parked dangerously."

The warning comes as officers continue to tackle parking issues that can pose a risk to both motorists and pedestrians.

Police have urged drivers to park considerately, particularly near junctions, where obstructive parking can affect visibility and road safety for all road users.
