Bikes donated by Buckinghamshire residents are set to help provide access to transport for rural communities in Africa.

A total of 66 bikes were collected at the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre in Amersham during a recent recycling drive, in a scheme run by Everyone Active and Buckinghamshire Council.

The donated bikes will be sent to the charity Re-Cycle (Bikes to Africa), which works to provide access to good quality re-cycled bikes to some of the most rural communities in Africa.

Steve Salwa, area contract manager for Everyone Active, said: "We’ve been blown away by how many members of the local community have chosen to support this project and donate their unwanted bicycles to Re-Cycle."

Charlotte Ward, director of Re-Cycle, said: "Every bike collected is an opportunity to change someone's daily life."

The bikes will be shipped to the charity’s partners across Africa, where they will be repaired and distributed to people in need.
