Chesham Town Council is set to decide whether to dispose of a £61,000 projector after purchasing a new one for £54,000.

In a report to the next full council meeting, the town clerk has asked councillors to approve the disposal of the old projector, which was installed at the Elgiva Theatre and cost the authority £61,141 when it was bought in 2014.

According to the report, the equipment has reached the end of its useful life and its replacement was agreed as part of the 2025/26 budget.

Since then, the council has bought and installed a new projector for the Elgiva, on St Mary’s Way, at a cost of £54,209, and it is now in operation.

The report recommends that the council formally dispose of the old unit, as previously supported by the Corporate Services Committee earlier this month.

However, that committee did not have the authority to approve the disposal because its disposal limit is £20,000, meaning the final decision must be made by the full council.

The clerk confirmed there will be no additional costs linked to disposing of the projector and said the plan aligns with the council’s strategic aims.

It said: “To enable residents to enjoy high quality social, recreational and cultural facilities within the town and to seek the continuing improvement and development of these facilities in accordance with the desires expressed by the residents.”

The report also confirmed the old projector has been removed from the council’s asset register.
