Close to 1,500 people have signed a petition against an 800-home green belt development on Bucks farmland.

At the time of writing, there are 1,463 Change.org verified signatures on a petition against homes planned for fields surrounding Hitcham Farm in Lent Rise Road, Burnham.

This comes as consultation letters are submitted to Bucks Council over a request by developers to define topics and levels of detail required for an environmental check.

In a consultation, dated February 9, Natural England stated: "A robust assessment of environmental impacts and opportunities based on relevant and up to date environmental information should be undertaken prior to a decision on whether to grant planning permission."

Slough Borough Council were consulted due to the proximity of Burnham to the town.

The local authority stated: "Slough Borough Council requests that Buckinghamshire Council considers impacts on your neighbours in Slough as part of the analysis of the submitted Scoping Opinion.

"Any Transport Assessment submitted and modelling should consider the road network in Slough.

"Other impacts, whether positive or negative, that has the potential to affect the neighbouring Borough should also be considered."

The Environment Agency stated: "Thank you for consulting us on the scoping opinion, we have reviewed the document and have no concerns with the information presented."

A full planning application has not yet been submitted, and there have been 174 public objections and one comment of support made on the eco assessment request.

Coudace Homes had previously shared a proposal for 1000 homes on the site with residents in a pre-application consultation.

In that consultation, the housebuilder shared a 'vision' for the area, saying it would 'create a sustainable new neighbourhood of up to 1,000 new homes alongside new countryside open space for the whole community to enjoy'.

Petition starter, Andrew Auld wrote: "This cherished farmland, part of the green belt, provides us with a serene landscape, perfect for walks and a vantage point offering sweeping views of the valley all the way to Bracknell.

"The presence of cows and lush green pastures enriches our daily lives and offers a rare escape from the concrete and chaos of urban life."

In an update shared on January 20, he stated that "horrified" Burnham residents fear the village will become "unliveable" if the bid is approved.

Joy Morrisey MP made a formal objection to the plan, saying concerns were 'legitimate and well-founded'.

She called the proposal 'unprecedented', saying it would place 'severe' pressure on local services.

Cllr Cole Caesar stated: "The proposal would cause significant and irreversible harm to the Green Belt, a working farm, protected ecological sites, infrastructure and the historic identity of local communities.

"This harm clearly outweighs any claimed benefits.

"I therefore strongly object and respectfully request that the application be called in to the relevant committee for scrutiny."
