Hambleden Cinema is gearing up for a special Christmas matinee.

On Saturday, December 6, the cinema will be showing The Penguin Lessons, starring Steve Coogan.

The film, rated 12, follows the story of an English teacher during the 1976 coup in Argentina, who rescues a penguin and brings it to his school.

The bird's presence starts to have a positive effect on the school, leading to changes in the teacher's life.

The film was adapted by Jeff Pope from Tom Michell's memoir of the same name, published in 2015.

The memoir chronicles Mr Michell's experience as a British teacher who travelled to South America to teach at a boys' boarding school in Argentina in the 1970s.

On a trip to Uruguay, he visited a beach in the Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este where he stumbled across a penguin, which he decided to rescue, bringing it to his hotel to clean and feed it.

The cinema will be serving mulled wine and mince pies for the event, encouraging attendees to join in with the festivities.

Doors open at 2pm, with the programme beginning at 3pm.

Tickets are £8 each and can be purchased on the Hambleden Cinema website, and from Hambleden Village Stores.

The event is being held to raise funds for Hambleden Village Hall, a registered charity.
