A children’s author is celebrating the release of her debut book.

Kat McFarlane, an equine therapist from Walters Ash, near the Chiltern Hills, has written The Magical Adventures of Lucy and Dazzle, the first in a planned series of stories for young readers.

The book follows Lucy, a curious young girl, and her pony, Dazzle, as they explore a world of friendship, bravery and a touch of magic.

Ms McFarlane said: "I wanted to create a story that captures the special bond between children and their ponies.

"There’s something truly magical about the way a pony can make a child feel brave, calm or simply joyful.

"Lucy and Dazzle’s adventures are a celebration of that."

The book draws on Ms McFarlane’s years of experience working with horses and young riders through her business, KM Equine Services.

She said her work inspired her to bring Lucy and Dazzle to life on the page.

The story is already attracting attention from families in the area, with its positive themes and gentle storytelling style.

The book’s illustrations and messages of imagination and confidence have resonated with early readers.

Ms McFarlane said: "I’d love for young readers to feel that spark — that sense that magic can be found in the everyday."

She hopes the story will encourage children to explore their creativity, enjoy the outdoors, and find adventure in daily life.

Ms McFarlane’s journey into writing was shaped by her background in equine therapy and her connection to the young riders she works with regularly.

The book is the first in a planned series, with further instalments already in development.

The Magical Adventures of Lucy and Dazzle is available now, with more information found on Ms McFarlane’s website, Amazon and The Great British Book Shop.

The publication marks an exciting new chapter for Ms McFarlane, who hopes to balance her equine work with future writing projects.
