Summer is a great time to appreciate Buckinghamshire’s smaller wildlife, with a wide variety of insects bringing colour, movement and character to gardens, parks and countryside habitats across the county.

Often spotted among wildflowers and hedgerows, these fascinating creatures can reveal an entirely different side to the natural world when viewed through a camera lens.

Among the most striking visitors is the hummingbird hawkmoth, a moth known for hovering in front of flowers while feeding on nectar. Other moth species, often overlooked compared with butterflies, display an incredible variety of colours, patterns and shapes when seen up close.

Bees continue to play a vital role in pollinating plants throughout Buckinghamshire, while grasshoppers and crickets add the familiar soundtrack of summer to grasslands and countryside walks.
