Chesham Town Council has raised the St George’s Flag in the town centre to show support for England’s sporting stars.

In a post on Facebook, the council said the flag recognises the “supreme efforts” of the England football team at the World Cup, following their impressive victory over Mexico on Monday, July 6. 

The council also wished the team luck ahead of its next match against Norway on Saturday, July 11.

A spokesperson for Chesham Town Council said: "The St George’s Flag is being flown in the town centre in recognition of and support for the supreme efforts being made by the England football team in The World Cup, to congratulate them on the incredible match against Mexico last Sunday and in support of their game on Saturday 11th against Norway."

Alongside its support for the three lions, the authority highlighted the success of British tennis player Arthur Fery, who secured a place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

The council ended its message by saying: “Come on England!”
