A Buckinghamshire beekeeper will visit a primary school to mark World Bee Day.

Meriet Duncan, an author and public speaker, will be visiting Hawridge and Cholesbury Church of England School on May 20.

Her visit aims to teach pupils about honeybees and their essential role in the environment.

Ms Duncan's journey into beekeeping began later in life after a career in editorial and portrait photography.

She developed a passion for bees after a chance encounter and has since focused her work on them.

Since 2018, she has been operating under the name "MD The Queen Bee," combining hands-on beekeeping with educational talks and writing.

Her aim is to encourage people of all ages to understand and appreciate honeybees more.

Speaking ahead of her visit, Ms Duncan said World Bee Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges facing pollinators and the simple steps people can take to help them.

Her visit to the primary school is part of her wider outreach programme across Buckinghamshire.

She works with local groups to highlight the importance of protecting biodiversity and supporting the natural environment.

World Bee Day is celebrated annually on May 20, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of bees and other pollinators in maintaining the health of the planet's ecosystems.
