A new listening bench has been unveiled at Bierton Crematorium to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.

Buckinghamshire Council announced the installation on September 10, saying the bench offers visitors a space to pause, reflect and access support while encouraging conversations around suicide bereavement and mental health.

The bench was provided by Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, a charity that supports people affected by suicide loss.

Its unveiling comes as Chilterns Crematorium celebrates its 60th anniversary year.

According to the Office for National Statistics, 6,190 suicides were registered in England and Wales in 2024, highlighting the continuing importance of suicide prevention and bereavement support.

Buckinghamshire Council said: "We're proud to unveil a new Listening Bench at the Chilterns Crematorium on World Suicide Prevention Day.

"The bench offers a space to pause, reflect and access support, while encouraging conversations around suicide bereavement and mental health."
