A much-loved member of staff who has spent her entire career at Wycombe High School has announced her retirement.

Ruth Green joined Wycombe High School straight from university in 1989 and has remained at the Marlow Road premises for 37 years.

During her time at the school, Mrs Green has held a remarkable range of roles, including Teacher of Chemistry, Subject Leader, Head of Year, Head of Sixth Form, Cover Supervisor, Cover Manager and, most recently, Music Administrator.

Generations of students have benefited from her knowledge, kindness and unwavering commitment to education, while colleagues have relied upon her experience, wisdom and deep understanding of the school community.

Wycombe High School Headteacher Nicola Renyard paid tribute to Mrs Green's contribution.

She said: "For 37 years, Ruth has been at the heart of Wycombe High School.

“Very few people can say they have dedicated their entire working life to one organisation, but Ruth has done exactly that and has done so with professionalism, warmth and complete dedication.

"Over nearly four decades, she has supported thousands of young people and worked alongside countless colleagues.

“Her impact on our school community has been immense and her legacy will be felt for many years to come.

"While we are sad to see her leave, we are incredibly grateful for everything she has given to Wycombe High School and wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement."

Mrs Green's final day at the school was marked with a series of celebrations and tributes from students and staff.

One of the highlights was a special performance by students of a specially adapted version of the Beatles classic Yesterday, written as a farewell to Mrs Green and performed in recognition of her decades of service.

The emotional performance formed part of the school's weekly Head's Up! video programme, presented by Mrs Renyard, and left many staff and students reflecting on the enormous contribution Mrs Green has made to school life.

Mrs Green's retirement comes during Wycombe High School's 125th anniversary year, adding particular significance to the departure of a colleague who has played such an important role in the school's recent history.

As she begins her retirement, the message from the Wycombe High community is simple: thank you, Ruth, for 37 years of dedication, service and care.
