A heritage railway has received a handcrafted tapestry as a gift from a dedicated supporter.

The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway was presented with the artwork by Catherine Helvin, who travelled from St Helens to deliver it, accompanied by her two dogs, Ruby and Coco.

The tapestry, which took a month to complete, depicts a driver experience day at Chinnor station and features the diesel locomotive 37227.

Ms Helvin has been embroidering for 25 years and has created several tapestries for heritage railways.

She said her next project will be for the Severn Valley Railway.

Ms Helvin said: "I wanted to do something unique for the railway to help them fundraise for the upkeep of the railway."

Peter Maynard, chairman of the railway, said: "The tapestry is so beautiful that we’re going to put it on display for our visitors and volunteers to enjoy.

"Catherine’s tapestry will help us raise money, as we plan to feature it in our publicity."

The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway operates steam and diesel trains every Sunday from Mother’s Day to Halloween, and on Thursdays during school holidays.

Tickets are available online or at the stations.
