The Aylesbury MP is calling for urgent improvement to maternal mental health support across the UK.

Laura Kyrke-Smith, the MP for Aylesbury, is backing 'Marching for Mothers,' a national campaign led by the mental health sports charity Sport in Mind.

The campaign calls for better mental health care for mothers, warning that nine in ten mums face mental health challenges after giving birth.

Ms Kyrke-Smith said: "I’m proud to support Sport in Mind’s Marching for Mothers campaign this year.

"Far too many mothers still face stigma and barriers when seeking support for their mental health.

"We must do better to ensure every woman receives the care, compassion and understanding she deserves during pregnancy and early motherhood.

"Campaigns like this play a vital role in raising awareness and pushing for the change families need, and I am proud to be a part of it."

Research by Sport in Mind found that 21 per cent of mothers surveyed experienced suicidal thoughts after childbirth, and 84 per cent believe stigma still surrounds maternal mental health.

The campaign calls on the government to recognise the human and economic impact of perinatal mental health problems.

It also urges giving mental health the same priority as physical health during and after pregnancy.
