A popular kebab van in Thame will be allowed to re-open, having previously been closed by the council - who said that it did not not have a trading consent certificate.

On Friday, South Oxfordshire District Council ruled that it would have to close for four weeks whilst it applied for a new certificate.

An online petition was set up in support of Atalay's Kebab Van and was signed by over 2,000 local residents.

The business has since confirmed on social media, in a post which has now been 'liked' over 1,500 times, that the dispute has since been resolved and the van will be allowed to re-open.

The statement read: "Thanks to your amazing support we have rightfully been given permission to remain open.

"Thanks to everyone that has signed the petition, shared the post and commented in support on our posts.

"We truly couldn't have done this without your support.

"SODC and Thame town council opened today especially for us to resolve this issue.

"SODC have said their copy of records may not have been present due to the Crownmarsh fire."

The Crownmarsh fire happened in January 2015, when an arson attack saw three buildings engulfed in flames including two council HQ's.

Supporters of the business expressed their delight at the news in the comment section.

Anthony Aitchison said: "So they should let you stay, it's one of the best Kebabs I have ever had. Always hot and tasty."

Peter Woodliffe-Thomas wrote: "Excellent news. Look forward to seeing you soon. All the best."

Andy Riley added: "Glad to do our small bit to help keep you in business guys. We need these little treats aswell to get us through these dark times with something to look forward to at the weekend."
