SEVERAL roads around High Wycombe are being used as ‘race tracks’ by drivers, according to neighbours.

People responded to news that police seized two supercars over Easter for ‘driving dangerously’ around town and on the M40.

And commenters on Facebook said roads in Downley are among the worst affected.

One user said: “Get yourselves down to Middlebrook Road in Downley. Used as a cut through/racetrack all day every day to miss the speed cameras on London Road and The Pastures.

“Apparently we haven’t had enough fatalities for council/police to take our complaints and requests for traffic calming seriously yet.”

Police crime data shows there have been at least four 'anti-social behaviour' crimes and three vehicle crimes logged in and around Middlebrook Road in the year to February 2019.

The combined figure for anti-social behaviour in the adjoining Pastures was 14.

However, the figures do not reveal if these were car or speeding-related offences.

Other suggestions of roads regularly dogged by speeding motorists including Garratts way, said to be ‘like a race track’.

Another commenter said: “I think most of Downley is. There’s been loads of accidents regularly on Middlebrook Road, should be grateful no ones been hurt badly, yet.

“It’s the fault of the idiots that have put speed cameras on the two roads either side and thus forcing the traffic and racers that want to avoid them and speed onto Middlebrook.”
