New Wycombe Wanderers head coach Michael Duff has issued a stark warning to his players if they ‘don’t want to align’ with the club, following his first defeat in charge.

The 47-year-old, who was hired six weeks into the season following the dismissal of Mike Dodds after a run of nine wins in 31 games, has secured two victories from his opening three games in charge.

He has opted to stay with the same starting 11 in the two league games against Northampton Town on September 20, which ended 2-0 to the Chairboys and on September 27, which ended in a 2-1 loss away at AFC Wimbledon, whilst making 11 changes in the League Cup victory against Wigan Athletic on September 23.

Up next is his former club Barnsley at Adams Park on October 4, and with Duff expected to make some alterations to the team, he has issued a warning to all members of the first team who might step out of line.

In the loss versus the Dons last weekend, Wanderers lacked any threat as the London-based side sailed into a two-goal lead inside 32 minutes.

He explained: “The players have been open to listening, but if a player doesn’t want to align, you just move them on.

“We need all the players to go in the same direction because if anyone wants to make it into a ‘what about me’, it’s a case of they are not good for the football club.

“That’s just how football works.

“You will always have your negative nellies, as they are not in the team.

“You understand they want to play, but then there is an education side of it in how we want to improve them.

“They can then take accountability for why they’re not in the team, or they can blame everyone else, and they’ll be out of the building.

“We’re nowhere near that as this is a fresh young group who all want to improve, whether they are in the team.”

The clash against Barnsley on October 4 will kick-off at 12.30pm.
