A gardener has revealed that their recent return to music has ‘really picked up’ following the release of their new single.

Dave Dunbar, who lives in the High Wycombe area, is a regular on the local circuit where he is a frequent visitor to pubs and bars.

He came to prominence in 2020 after he was seen singing tunes outside the Tesco Superstore in Loudwater amid the coronavirus pandemic, and now six years on, he is hoping to get his tunes heard.

At the end of January, he released ‘Walking in Your Sleep’ on YouTube with an accompanying music video, which has since been viewed over 400 times.

Speaking to the Free Press, the gardener said: “I used to do songwriting when I was 20/21 years-old but stopped because you need to think about what you’re going to do for a living.

“I returned in 2020, and I got all these songs together, and this one, I think, is really good.

“I wrote it with a friend, we recorded it professionally, and we officially released but I have been doing my day job as a gardener in the meantime.”

On the song, which has a cartoon music video, he added: “I wrote it with a friend who is in the Lane End Theatre Group, and he writes poetry.

“We went to the pub, had some Guiness and I said you write the poetry and I’ll turn it into a song.

“We did that one evening, got the basics of the song, I worked on the chorus, and the song is what we came out with.

“It is mainly about family, friendships and relationships, and my co-writer came up with the idea of the picture video.”

Following the release of the song, ‘Walking in Your Sleep’ has been played at several locations in the area, such as the Bees Knees Sandwich Bar along the Pinions Road, and the Holmer Green Paddle Courts on Watchet Lane.

It has been played at events, and Mr Dunbar is confident things will continue positively.

He said: “The music has really picked up in the last few years.

“I do all my crooning at birthday parties, anniversaries and local pubs as we want to get the music out.

“The song does talk to people, especially when you watch the video.

“It is a nice video and something you can put forward to the care home for the elderly.

“We didn’t mean it for it to be like that  - it is about important family relationships.”
